Scottish Premiership preview

Aberdeen were embarrassed by sixth-tier Darvel in the Scottish Cup on Monday and on Saturday the Dons travel to one of the few Scottish Premiership clubs giving them a run for their money in the calamity stakes.

Hibernian have lost ten of their last 14 matches and they suffered another crushing defeat to Hearts at Easter Road last weekend. The Hibs hierarchy stopped short of Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack, who has demanded a response from manager Jim Goodwin and the Dons players, but their boss Lee Johnson is also under major pressure.

This contest could become a rather desperate affair and the profile of Hibs and Aberdeen suggests backing over 3.5 goals could be worth a punt at Easter Road.

There have been 28 goals in the Hibees' last seven matches with Johnson’s men conceding 17 of those strikes. The net has also bulged 28 times in Aberdeen’s last eight away league games and the Dons couldn’t even record a shutout against lowly Darvel in Ayrshire.

Goodwin’s men have kept just one clean sheet in their last 21 away league matches and it is hard to see Aberdeen standing firm, even if the Dons adopt a more pragmatic approach.

The Premiership's bottom two collide when Ross County host Kilmarnock and the visitors look good value to boost their survival hopes. Killie haven’t won an away league game this term but they have collected draws at St Mirren and Motherwell and restricted both Rangers and Celtic to only two goals on their travels.

Derek McInnes’s men won’t get a better opportunity to break their duck than on their trip to Dingwall. They face a Ross side who are winless in eight matches, were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Championship opponents Hamilton, and have hit only three goals during that lean run.
