Cove to win Scottish League One

Season preview

Falkirk crumbled as promotion loomed last season and they threw away any chance of Championship football by winning just one of their final nine league games of the campaign.

The Bairns should be involved in the League One shake-up once again and it will be interesting to see what new boss Paul Sheerin can achieve this term.

However, good performers Blair Alston and Sean Kelly have left the club and there doesn't seem a huge amount of value in the 5-2 on offer about Falkirk.

The division looks a three-runner race this season with Cove and Queen’s Park likely to be battling it out with the Bairns.

Queen’s Park cruised to the League Two title last season and they are certainly interesting contenders this term. The Spiders have held on to pretty much all of their title-winning squad and the signing of Liam Brown from Edinburgh City, the first transfer fee the club has ever paid, looks a good move. Queen’s Park have the financial backing of businessman Willie Haughey and it will be interesting to see if there are any more arrivals at Firhill.

However, they have to make the step up to League One level and that looks to have been taken for granted slightly by the prices.

Cove finished just four points off champions Partick last season and they look capable of improving on that effort after plenty of summer arrivals.

Iain Vigurs and Ross Draper bring plenty of experience with them from Ross County, while Shay Logan looks a good addition from Aberdeen.

Young centre-back Jevan Anderson has been brought in from Burton and Robbie Leitch was poached from Falkirk.

The Wee Rangers host Falkirk on the opening day of the season and with the Bairns preparation being severely hampered by Covid complications, Cove could secure an early advantage over their likely title rivals.

Paul Hartley has a strong squad to work with and at 3-1 they look a solid each-way proposition in a division with only three credible challengers.
