Match preview

England Under-21s face European champions Germany in a friendly at Bramall Lane and both teams cruised through their Euro 2023 qualifying campaigns.

Germany, who won the Under-21 tournament in 2017 and 2021, racked up nine wins out of ten in Group B while England won eight of their first nine games before a 2-1 defeat to Slovenia in a dead rubber.

Lee Carsley's side returned to winning ways in last week's 2-0 friendly victory against Italy as Sheffield United's Rhian Brewster scored twice in the first five minutes.

Liverpool's Harvey Elliott, Everton's Anthony Gordon and Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, who has scored five goals in eight Ligue 1 appearances on loan at Reims this season, came off the bench against Italy so should be pushing for starts in Sheffield.

Borussia Dortmund's 17-year-old striker Youssoufa Moukoko is a major threat with six goals in five Germany U21 outings but England's youngsters have plenty of Premier League experience and can see off their visitors.
