Competition regulations should deter too many teams from making wholesale changes for their EFL Trophy openers, but Newport boss Michael Flynn is definitely going to shuffle his pack against Plymouth and they can be opposed.

County have just shipped 11 in two games against Southampton and Salford – and it could have been a lot more.

The Exiles named only six subs at Salford and because they are short on numbers and Flynn, himself back from Covid-enforced isolation, will draft in a handful of kids for the Southern Group F encounter.

The Cobblers are without a win in three and Saturday's 0-0 draw at Crawley came at a price with skipper Joseph Mills being carried off with an ankle injury which will keep him out for months.
