Brisbane Heat are in scintillating Big Bash form and they can justify favouritism against Sydney Thunder, who they beat at the Spotless Stadium last Tuesday.

Heat chalked up an impressive total of 186 in that clash, reducing the side from the capital to 34-2 before Duckworth-Lewis Method intervened, and have now won three of their last four games.

They have lost key paceman James Pattinson to injury and will be without Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw and Joe Burns, who are playing in the Cricket Australia XI side against Sri Lanka, but Thunder’s absences are more severe.

Sydney will once again be without top run scorer Jos Buttler and Joe Root while Jason Sangha, who racked up 30 in their first game without the England duo, is also absent.

Heat’s batting depth means they are better at coping with absences. Big scores from Max Bryant (44), Brendon McCullum (69) and Chris Lynn (66) were enough to grind Melbourne Renegades into submission last time out.

The likes of Brendan Doggett (3-16), Mitchell Swepson (3-22) and Josh Lalor (2-12) all showed they were more than capable of sharing the wicket-taking burden in that clash and Heat’s range of options in both disciplines can see them over the line.

Recommendation
Brisbane Heat
2pts 4-5 general
