Teofimo Lopez makes the first defence of his WBA, WBO and IBF lightweight titles when he tackles mandatory challenger George Kambosos at Madison Square Garden's Hulu Theatre in New York.

Lopez put in a beautiful performance when winning the titles from the top-class Vasyl Lomachenko in October last year and that is the standout piece of form on offer. The Takeover remains unbeaten as a professional and he has major claims in the pound-for-pound argument.

Kambosos is also undefeated, but the majority of his bouts have been low-key contests. The Aussie certainly deserves his shot and he will come with hunger and desire to claim the titles, but that positivity may end up being his downfall.

The standout win on Ferocious’s CV is his defeat of former world champion Lee Selby. However, that was only a split-decision victory, and for all that the Welshman has been a brilliant performer, you have to wonder what was left when he faced the Aussie. Selby has previously been taken 12 rounds by a regressive Ricky Burns and perhaps that form isn’t as strong as it looks on paper.

Kambosos's win over Mickey Bey was also a good effort, but there is much more needed against a fighter of Lopez’s ability.

There are a few doubts surrounding the Takeover. It has taken a major weight cut for the American to reach the 135lb limit, his preparation may have been interrupted by the birth of his child just a couple of weeks prior to the fight and perhaps he may be guilty of overlooking Kambosos. However, it would be unwise to get too caught up in those factors and it may be an easier night than the prices suggest.

The total rounds line has been set at 8.5 and Kambosos's ambition may see Lopez find the answers earlier than the layers expect.
