Sunday betting preview

Another full slate of Afcon games features Mali and Tunisia, who played out a controversial first match, making their second appearance. Elsewhere, the well-fancied pairing of Ivory Coast and Algeria turn out against Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea.

Gambia v Mali

Sky Sports Mix, 1pm Sunday

Mali were the winners of a match that made headlines for all the wrong reasons in their first game, when their 1-0 victory over Tunisia marred by confusion after the referee blew the whistle early.

That shouldn’t overshadow what was a strong performance from the Malians and they are a confident selection to follow up against Gambia, who won their first Afcon game against fellow minnows Mauretania in the first round of fixtures.

The debutants lost the shot count 20-8 in that game and may be overpowered by Mali’s considerable attacking talents. Moussa Djenepo, Adama Malouda Traore and goalscorer Ibrahima Kone gave Tunisia’s defence plenty of issues and can do so again here.

Tunisia v Mauritania

Sky Sports Mix, 4pm Sunday

Tunisia made their anger at the officiating in their opening game against Mali known but they must put that behind them quickly to ensure it doesn’t derail their campaign.

The Eagles of Carthage get a fairly straightforward opportunity to bounce back with a win and should take it against a Mauretania side who missed what is likely to be their best opportunity for a win against Gambia.

Ivory Coast v Sierra Leone

Sky Sports Football, 4pm Sunday

Ivory Coast demonstrated the depth of their attacking talents as Wilf Zaha and Nicolas Pepe could only make the bench in their opening win over Equatorial Guinea. A thunderbolt from former Leeds man Max Gradel gave them the share of the spoils.

Zaha is likely to come into the side and is taken to get on the scoresheet. Sierra Leone put in a heroic defensive performance to deny Algeria in their opening game but the likelihood of them repeating the trick is slim.

Algeria v Equatorial Guinea

Sky Sports Mix, 7pm Sunday

Algeria’s 0-0 draw in their opener has put them in a tricky situation. The Greens will not want to go into their final game against Ivory Coast chasing a victory to ensure their progress to the knockout stages.

As a result they will have to beat Equatorial Guinea. Algeria racked up eight shots on target in their opener but a man-of-the-match performance from Mohamed Kamara in the Sierra Leone goal denied them.

Equatorial Guinea are likely to need similar heroics if they are to deny the Algerians here.
