Dwelt start, took keen hold, towards rear, headway from over 1f out, led towards finish (trainer's rep could offer no explanation for the apparent improvement in form) (op 12/1 tchd 11/1)
In touch with leaders early, midfield after 1f, headway but hung left from over 1f out, ran on inside final furlong, went second final stride (jockey said gelding hung left-handed in closing stages) (op 13/2)
In rear, some headway from over 1f out, no impression inside final furlong (jockey was asked to explain his riding in home straight where, having raced in rear throughout, gelding appeared to be considerately handled, in particular between 2f and 1f out; jockey said that having turned into home straight, gelding was hanging badly left-handed, a fact he had reported at scales and that his focus therefore was on keeping a good hold of his mount to prevent it from laying in and, as a consequence, he had been unable to ride his mount forward in a normal manner during this section of the race; jockey added that he was eventually able to obtain a shorter grip on the reins which gave him more control and he was then able to switch his whip into the left-hand inside the final furlong where he used it on two occasions to further ensure that gelding remained on a straight course through to line; his explanation was noted; vet had nothing to report) (op 11/2)
Anticipated start, raced wide, midfield, weakened from over 2f out (jockey said gelding anticipated the start; vet said gelding had an irregular heartbeat) (op 11/2 tchd 13/2)
