Wincanton hosts the Somerset National (2.25) which features it's usual bunch of experienced old-timers taking on a large helping of useful novices among its nine runners.

Robert Waley-Cohen is strongly represented on an interesting Wincanton card with smart sort Elusive Bell (1.20) making her hurdling debut while the consistent Theatre Territory (3.00) bids for a first chasing success on her tenth outing over fences.

At Market Rasen, the Listed bumper (2.40) is run in the name of late trainer Alan Swinbank. Four of the six runners are winners already and they should serve up an indicative race.

Ludlow hosts nothing so titled, but can be relied upon for good handicaps and interesting novice races and supplies both. The feature handicap chase is at 2.15.

Newcastle takes over in the evening, hosting eight races on the Tapeta from 3.55.

Final thought

Len Brennan has a lot to live up to in the Somerset National, having been third behind Ok Corral and Impulsive Star last time, but Wandrin Star looks to be the most interesting. He has seemingly always been well fancied from a yard with plenty of smart staying novices and his form has a solid look.
