'I had to keep him' - Tanmawwy delivers for new owner and in-form Charlie Hills
Monday: Windsor
Tanmawwy showed just why Charlie Hills was so keen to keep him when recording a comfortable victory in the 6f handicap for older horses.
Formerly owned by Shadwell, Tanmawwy looked smart when winning on his debut at Haydock in September 2020, but missed all of last year and now races in the colours of Rick Frost, who has fellow Hills inmate Dark Shift engaged in Saturday's Tote+ Victoria Cup at Ascot.
The in-form Lambourn trainer said: "I've always really liked this horse and when he was a two-year-old I thought he was one of my better ones.
"He won really well at Haydock, but was then never right. He went back to Shadwell for a year and they did a great job being patient with him, but I thought I'd love to still have him in my yard."
Classy sprint handicaps are set to be on the agenda for the 3-1 winner, whose rider William Buick doubled up on Maplewood in the mile novice.
"I just said to Mr Frost we should try to work back from something like the Stewards' Cup and a race like that could suit," added Hills, who was speaking to Sky Sports Racing.
Watson among winners
Archie Watson enjoyed a double when Son And Sannie, ridden by rising star Harry Davies, struck in the 5f apprentice handicap, while Excel Power justified 6-5 favouritism under Hollie Doyle in the mile handicap.
