Goldie hoping Jessie Allan can follow up long-awaited first win

Connections of Jessie Allan had their patience rewarded when she made her 41st start a first winning one at Redcar last week. Now they are hoping a bit of alacrity pays similar dividends as she turns out under a penalty in Ayr's 6f fillies' handicap (6.30).

Trainer Jim Goldie said: "She'd been unlucky more than anything else and it's great for Robert [McLachlan, owner].

He had Latin Rebel before, who won only the once for him. But you see how long it took Sheikh Mohammed to win the Derby! It's not easy.

"Robert's an interesting guy, he used to be an engineer. He'll probably get the bus down to Ayr to see her run tomorrow. Not many owners will come on the bus."

There was a second angle to Jessie Allan's win last week, as it was a winner on his British debut for amateur rider Corey Madden, who had ridden just a handful in public in his native Ireland before then.

Goldie said: "Considering she's had so many jockeys who have ridden her, it's funny it was a guy having his first ride in Britain who eventually won on her.

"Corey works for us, and had ridden her at home; maybe the home comforts helped her."

Jamie Gormley is on board on Monday and Goldie added: "Jamie's a promising young Scottish rider and she's in good order, so I wouldn't be surprised if she did it again. It's a fillies' race, which restricts the opposition."

It would normally be asking a bit too much of a typical Monday to see a Classic winner in action, but Leicester's 3.10 features one among its smart, seven-strong field for a 7f fillies' conditions stakes.

Unforgetable Filly won last year's German 1,000 Guineas at Dusseldorf, the same race won last week by Nyaleti. She has run just twice since, and not beaten a rival in either the Sceptre Stakes or QEII Challenge Cup at Keeneland.

This assignment naturally looks a lot easier for the Hugo Palmer-trained filly, who had also won a Listed race over this trip at Musselburgh before her successful raid on Dusseldorf.

Hells Babe was fourth behind her that day and reopposes, so long as the two-day turnaround from finishing seventh in the latest renewal of the same race hasn't made its mark.

She would be among the leading contenders on form, along with improving three-year-old Di Fede and She Believes, a six-length nursery winner at Goodwood last year.

Also of interest is Coronation Stakes entry Sheikha Reika, who won nicely at the Craven meeting but has since missed an engagement in Listed company at York after being unruly in the stalls.

Minstrel out for more success at Newton Abbot

Court Minstrel has been a tremendous servant to connections down the years, winning three graded handicaps, the latest in Chepstow's Silver Trophy last autumn.

He carries top weight in the feature at Newton Abbot (3.20), a £21,500 handicap hurdle over 2m2½f. The intermediate trip should be ideal for the popular 11-year-old.

Cultivator, who won at Warwick last time, could be one of his biggest threats – Nicky Henderson's charge has only been put up 2lb – while Fidux was third that day and could improve.

Court Minstrel is one of only two horses to have won at the track having landed one of his two chase wins here. The other is Cleni Wells, who won this race 12 months ago.
