Sunday: Wolverhampton

The old team of Tom Dascombe and Richard Kingscote got together for one last success in 2021 – a year that marked significant change for the trainer and jockey.

After 15 years working hand in glove together, Kingscote stepped away from his retained position with Dascombe to pursue other opportunities, including taking more rides for former champion Flat trainer Sir Michael Stoute in Newmarket.

Dascombe is also facing up to changes in 2022, after owner Michael Owen revealed this month the trainer would no longer be operating from his Manor House Stables facility in Cheshire after 12 years, a move that Dascombe described as “a complete shock”.

However, the trainer-and-jockey combination that landed such prizes as the Irish St Leger, Goodwood Cup and Queen Mary were able to celebrate one more time in 2021 after Misty Grey captured the 7f handicap at Wolverhampton for owners Barbara and Alick Richmond.

Kingscote told Sky Sports Racing: “Every time I’ve been in a close finish with him he always pulls plenty out. We were pretty confident and rode him a little handier today. He's relaxing in his races and gave me a good spin.”

Misty Grey was the second leg of a 138-1 four-timer for Kingscote after he had steered Fearless Angel to victory in the 5f novice for Dave Loughnane and owner Kia Joorabchian’s Amo Racing.

The Belardo filly's victory was the 34th from a two-year-old for Amo Racing alone or in partnership in 2021.

Kingscote struck on Diamond Jill in the 1m1½f handicap for Sarah Hollinshead and rounded off the day aboard 1m4f handicap winner Sophosc for Ian Williams.
