Key info, market movers and expert advice on Dante day at York
In a year when a previous Derby fancy wins the 2,000 Guineas, there is always a looming spectre over the remaining trials and that remains the case in today's Betfred Dante Stakes (3.30).
The winner will instantly be compared with Saxon Warrior and if any such trial winner is to measure up, recent history tells us this race is the one to take seriously. So far this century, not only has the winner gone on to follow up at Epsom four times, but others have also landed the Irish and French versions, the Arc and the Dubai World Cup.
Favourite this year is Guineas fifth Roaring Lion, but the nine-strong field is deep in behind with Crossed Baton, Mildenberger, Wells Farhh Go, James Cook, Nordic Lights and White Mocha all available at single-figure odds at the start of the day.
The other big race on the card is the Middleton Stakes (2.55), which tests Royal Ascot form from last year with Coronet and Mori in opposition once more, while there is also Listed action and some valuable handicaps.
Other cards on the day come from Perth, Salisbury, Fontwell, Newmarket and Clonmel.

What to back
It's two for one, or rather twenty for ten, as James Hill serves up a double bill in today's Ten Second Tips.
What to read
There was a blow for connections, and racing fans everywhere, on Wednesday evening as news broke of a popular campaigner being ruled out for the season.
Gordon Elliott sends out his first runners in nearly a fortnight at Clonmel this evening and had some unambiguous words for those who suggested there was anything untoward about the break.
What to watch
Before the Dante field make their Derby claims, remind yourself of the firepower Aidan O'Brien has at his disposal as he bids for a record-equalling seventh Derby win next month.
The best of Racing Post Sport
There was plenty of football action yesterday with hardly a ball being kicked. Get our reaction to the England World Cup squad and Everton's decision to sack Sam Allardyce.
There is also some intrigue in this week's European Tour golf, with the quirky Belgian Knockout providing a unique puzzle for Ian Wilkerson.
Final thought
If there is to be a Yorkshire-trained winner of the Dante, then a story is guaranteed. For Wells Farhh Go, representing Tim Easterby and relatively small owners, the angle is obvious, while success for Mildenberger would fuel hopes of him taking on the unfinished business left by connections' tough but ill-fated Permian last year.
