Paying seven places on each-way bets

It is worth looking closely not just at odds of the horse but the amount of places being offered by your bookmaker. Usually you will be paid out for a place for a second, third and fourth-place finish but for big races bookmakers commonly extend this to be more competitive with their rivals in the market.

Sky Bet and Betway are paying out on seven places, the most available for bookmakers, while bet365, Ladbrokes, Coral, Paddy Power, Betfair Sportsbook, Star Sports, 888Sport and William Hill offer six. Each-way terms are 1/5 of the price.

Where do I find the best odds, it's easy

With 40 runners to choose from and millions of pounds being placed across the day, each horse will be priced up differently by each bookmaker. It is advised to take a look to make sure you are getting the best price available.

Luckily, the Racing Post website has a handy and easy-to-use comparison tool on the racecard. On the right-hand side of the card, and at top, simply click next to Select Bookmaker and choose best odds.

This will show the biggest price available for each horse, ordered with best value at the top. Then click the bet button on the racecard which will show which firms are offering which.

You can then even bet through the Racing Post website by signing into your existing account. If you need to create a new account you can also do this through the site.

A free shot at a big prize

You can land a big prize without even putting a penny on by entering a number of free-to-play games.

The ITV7 is the most well-known. Players have to pick the winner of each of the seven selected races with a jackpot of £100,000 up for grabs. It is free to enter but players must have a Sky Bet account to be able to play.

In addition, the ITV7 are also running a free-to-play sweepstake with one winner guaranteed to win £50,000. A horse will be drawn at random and if it wins you enter a prize draw with one winner selected.

Coral are running its Racing Super Series game with £50,000 in the prize pot. Players, who must be signed into a Coral account, must select a placed horse in each of the seven races to earn a share of the winnings.

A £250 free bet is the top prize in Star Sports' Yes or No competition on the Grand National. Players simply have to correctly answer the questions to be in with a shot of the main prize.

The outcome of the race also features in Paddy Power's Beat The Drop game.

Money-back offers

Not all offers are restricted to new customers. Bet365 are offering a money-back offer on each-way selections on the race for stakes up to £125 (£250 in total). Half the stake will be instantly refunded.

This is essentially allowing customers to bet half the amount to get the same bet on a horse, with the pay-out the same. Stakes must however be each-way singles to validate the offer.
