A field of nine fillies and mares go to post for the Grade 3 Shawnee Stakes 1m½f on the dirt course and this can go to the oldest mare in this field, Free Like A Girl, who drops back in grade.

This vastly experienced six-year-old has no fewer than 21 victories and has been placed 20 other times from 51 starts, so her consistency is to be admired.

She also has plenty of class having won several stakes events throughout her career, albeit none of those being in Graded company but the general feeling is that this is her time to get that well deserved win at this level.

Julien Leparoux’s mount ran an outstanding second behind the top class Thorpedo Anna in the Grade 1 Apple Blossom Handicap as recently as last month, so if she turns up in the same form here then she will be very tough to beat.

Brad Cox has won two of the five runnings of the Grade 3 Blame Stakes and his Most Wanted will no doubt be well favoured in the market after some big efforts in Grade 2 company in recent months.

However, Brittany Russell saddles a really nice horse in Post Time who comes into after an easy 13-length victory in an Allowance Optional Claiming race at Laurel Park at the start of the month.

We have yet to see the best of this son of Frosted, who has won at Grade 2 level and, on the pick of his form from last season, finished a good second behind Full Serrano in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar.

He has yet to finish out of the frame in 16 starts and is the clear selection with much more to come from him in 2025.
