Robbie Wilders' play of the day at Newcastle

Paddy's Day

5.00 Newcastle

The feature at Newcastle is a trappy 5f handicap and five of these met in a similar race over course and distance last month. That looks the formline to focus on.

While three-year-old Dark Cloud Rising got the job done and could have plenty more to offer in this sort of race, he had a smooth trip round and a few of those in behind were a bit unlucky.

The strong-travelling Lethal Nymph found his path blocked at a key stage, while Paddy's Day and Badri also suffered interference.

Preference is for Paddy's Day at the likely prices as he'll be better off at the weights with a few of these and is entitled to build on his sixth-placed finish as that was his first start since August.

Paddy's Day thrives on his racing and that was the longest break he's had in 14 months, while it was also his first run following wind surgery.

We know he's better on the all-weather as he is 7-20 on synthetics, compared with 1-24 on turf, and he's clinical at Newcastle with six victories from his ten course-and-distance starts.
