Nap of the day: the best horse racing tips from the day's six meetings on Friday, October 17

Dundalk

5.45: Star Harbour

Still a maiden on the AW, Star Harbour may get his turn here, having been narrowly denied here last week. Longbourn looks the chief threat, although Quatre Bras could be interesting back on the AW.

Fakenham

4.25: Police Academy

The highly unusual circumstances of her subsequent disqualification throw no shade at all on the merit of Police Academy's Uttoxeter mares' chase win, one gained off today's unchanged mark in a higher-banded Class 4. With Shadows In The Sky and Taxus Baccata still to win above Class 5, Enjoy d'Allen yet to revive for current connections and Catchim 4lb wrong (though still probably just about next best), compensation for the Fergal O'Brien mare surely awaits.

Haydock

4.50: Kinswoman

The progressive 3yo Kinswoman went close off today's mark in a big field at York last Friday and can go one better today. Last year's winner Trilby loves it here and is feared most on the back of some encouraging performances. The consistent Jer Batt and the 3yo Naana's Sparkle could also be involved.

Newcastle

7.30: Woodrafff

Several in-form handicappers are on show and this looks warm for the grade. Woodrafff is 4lb higher than when winning over C&D 17 days ago, but he was nicely on top at the finish and he can record his third win of the year. Ring Of Gold, Coramento, One More Bottle and Filey Beach all come here with something to recommend them, while Sold Out still has a bigger effort in him.

Redcar

5.05: Salaria

With further improvement possible, Salaria is taken to follow up her Pontefract success. Epicurian Lad, who looks interesting despite still being a maiden, is second choice ahead of Pride Of Nepal, who has reasonably solid claims with Sarah Bowen on board.

Uttoxeter

3.32: Brave Knight

A few of these have possibilities but today's step up in trip may unlock improvement from useful Flat stayer Brave Knight, who posted a good effort over 2m at Plumpton last month. C&D winner Dargiannini is feared most, but Minella Rescue was in career-best form here in the early part of this season and Disco Davis begins his new campaign with significant potential.
