Robbie Wilders' play of the day at Pontefract

Herakles

4.42 Pontefract

Most of the runners in the Class 6 5f handicap have questions to answer, but they don't include Herakles, who was a big eyecatcher when sixth in a Class 4 event at Newcastle last time.

Herakles was going up against seasoned sprint handicappers like Alligator Alley and Zarzyni there, and probably would have beaten both if getting anything like a clear run.

Jockey Mark Winn had nowhere to go with his mount boxed in on the stands' side rail for the best part of a furlong and a half. Herakles wouldn't have won, but he's dropping down two grades and is entitled to step forward for his first start in 122 days.

The Paul Midgley-trained five-year-old is back on a mark we know he can win off (scored off 3lb higher at Ripon last June) and, while stall eight could have been kinder, he has the class to get away with it in a weak race.
