The Hayes family are poised to assist Tote Placepot punters by supplying two bankers and another at a value price in the popular exotic bet on FWD Champions Day at Sha Tin.
Obviously, Ka Ying Rising cannot be opposed in the 6f Chairman’s Sprint Prize (7.50). He is attempting his 12th win on the trot and seems to be going as well now as he was back at the start of the season.
It is interesting to see how David Hayes has placed him. He has raced once a month, every month, since September. The trainer has kept him fresh and relied on barrier trials for the fine-tuning before his big targets.
Mr Brightside, sent out by David’s sons Ben, Will and JD, is going to take a world of beating in the FWD Champions Mile (9.00) and he may be better odds than many think. He has the perfect draw in stall two and he, too, is banker material.
But if you want to cover more bases, the Hong Kong Derby second My Wish should run a mighty race from gate one. He just failed to catch Cap Ferrat last month and was effectively beaten by the draw (14 of 14).
This is the best draw he has received in his ten-start career and Luke Ferraris is sure to have him a lot closer than last time when he dropped back to absolute last but consequently recorded very good sectionals.
Voyage Bubble is going to have to overcome his draw in stall ten and Royal Patronage, in stall three, might be the one to nab a place if you are widening your number of selections.
The Hayes horse at the most appealing price is David’s lightly raced Akashvani in the Class 3 6f handicap sprint (8.25). The three-year-old has won and finished second from high draws and this time is a lot better off in gate six.
He will be ridden by multiple South African champion Lyle Hewitson, who has impressed with the way he has settled in Hong Kong after a bumpy start a few seasons ago. He has ridden 19 winners this term.
David Eustace saddles a four-year-old once regarded as his key Hong Kong Derby hope, the lightly raced import Silvery Breeze, who resumes after a lengthy break, in the Class 3 7f handicap (10.55).
This is a hot race in which to make a return after a break but he has drawn well in stall three and should be able to take up a handy position. Karis Teetan takes over, with Purton preferring Eighty Light Years, who has drawn 13.
