John Size may have spent much of the past week in Dubai, but it hasn’t impeded his steady  march towards a 13th Hong Kong trainers’ title, which can be maintained when Sky Jewellery contests the mile handicap (10.50) at Sha Tin.

The three-year-old has been one of the finds of the season, winning two of his four outings, while also looking unlucky in one and being beaten by a smart type in Hong Lok Golf in the other.

Brenton Avdulla was aboard last time when the gelding showed a tendency to lug in halfway up the straight, resulting in the jockey having to twice stop riding and straighten his mount. He came from the second half of the field and failed by only a neck.

With Hugh Bowman back in the saddle, Sky Jewellery can make it three wins in his first three months racing, a particularly bright start to a promising career. His main danger is the David Eustace-trained Glorious Success, who will appreciate being back on turf at Sha Tin.

Size, who has been away supervising Howdeepisyourlove’s assault on the Al Quoz Sprint, has a strong hand with nine runners on the Sha Tin card and has an excellent chance of widening his 45-39 lead over closest rival David Hayes in the championship.

Apart from Sky Jewellery, Size also sends out the promising Raging Rapids, who will be ridden for the first time by Bowman when he lines up for the 7f handicap (9.40). His racing style hints at improvement to come as he steps up in trip.

Bowman will have a handle on his chief danger Autumn Vibes, who he rode into fifth over 6f last time. Another to consider for multiples is the Chris So-trained Carryon Smiling.

So will be eager to regain the winning thread with his budding star The Boom Box, who looks the one to beat in the 7f handicap (10.15). The four-year-old was a close third last time after finding himself in an awkward spot when those involved in the finish were racing tight.

Drawn nicely in stall two, he should have the run of the race. Brilliant Express is next best in a tough race.
