Encore D'Or can shine with Moore on top

VELVET VOICE (5.00) has been a slow learner but there was much more encouragement at Lingfield last time out. Having her second run back from a break, Mark Tompkins’ three-year-old led into the home straight of that 1m2f handicap and plugged on for second with only the well-backed Mirimar proving too strong. She shaped as though a slightly longer trip would suit that day, so this return to 1m4f can help her land a first success.
Rosy Ryan is bidding for a hat-trick in the fillies’ handicap but she may struggle to match MISS GOLDSMITH (4.30). The four-year-old had 17 races without success for other yards but finally opened her account on her debut for Rebecca Menzies at Ayr recently.
There was money for her at big prices and she didn’t disappoint, easily holding off Magic Journey. She has conditions to suit again and a 5lb rise in the weights is well within her capabilities.
PLACEBO EFFECT (2.30) has comfortably landed two sellers in recent weeks and he can cope with the tougher company he faces in this nursery. Ollie Pears’ juvenile gelding produced a career best to win over this trip at Ripon two starts back and did well to follow up at Catterick four days later after he missed the break.

Several in-form rivals clash in the 1m6f handicap and THISTIMENEXTYEAR (4.45) can come out on top.
Richard Spencer’s charge boiled over before the start at Kempton in May but he showed promise on his debut and bounced back to form at Lingfield last month, going off in front and coming home clear.
He moves into handicap company with a realistic mark and has the potential for further progress if his attitude can be kept under control.
Nottingham
Apprentice Jamie Gormley has been making a good impression recently and he can have another success with MAMNOON (4.55) in the opener.
The four-year-old opened his account when tried in blinkers at Bath in May and has gone close in two subsequent handicaps.
The slower ground is a slight unknown but he can race off an unchanged mark and is capable of winning a race of this standard under his promising new partner.
Chelmsford
ENCORE D’OR (7.40) has a fantastic record on the sand and is sure to go well again in the valuable 5f handicap.
Robert Cowell’s five-year-old has come up slightly short in a pair of turf Listed races recently but he posted a career best over this course and distance in June, seeing off Royal Birth by a neck.
He is only 3lb higher and can defy giving away weight all round with Ryan Moore in the saddle for the first time.
