January switch for Monmore opens

MONMORE is to trial a temporary switch of its opens from Saturday nights to Thursday evenings in January.
The move comes after the Wolverhampton circuit reported a recent downturn in entries, with racing manager Tony Williamson saying: “We’ve not been filling the Saturday opens very well since around September time so have decided to try a change of plan.
“We will switch to Thursday nights in January until the 31st, which is when we start trial stakes for the Winter Derby and Golden Jacket.”
The first batch of advertised Thursday opens at Monmore are set for January 8, with races closing on Monday, January 5.
Williamson added: “Hopefully the switch will prove popular with owners and trainers.
“We begin with three Category Three competitions over 264m, 480m and 630m, all worth £500 to the winner and £100 to others.
“Heats of each are £300 to the winner and £80 to other runners.”
