Day three preview

Casper Ruud won the Swiss Open title when last in action but the Norwegian could face a tough time in making the transition from clay to hard courts when he takes on Alex Molcan at the ATP National Bank Open.

Ruud is a top-class clay-court performer but the 23-year-old does come with question marks on faster surfaces, with just one of his nine ATP World Tour titles coming on a hard court, and it's reasonable to think he could be vulnerable in Montreal.

Molcan is an improving player, and while he too is arguably better on clay, the Slovakian looked in good touch when seeing off Mackenzie McDonald in his opener in Canada.

Fourth seed Ruud received a first-round bye, which arguably hasn't helped him in getting up to speed, so backing Molcan to win at least a set could prove the best bet.

In Toronto, WTA number three Paula Badosa should have no problems dispatching Yulia Putintseva in the women's event.

Badosa was disappointed to lose to Daria Kasatkina in San Jose last week, but that result looked much better after Kasatkina claimed the title in California, and the Spaniard had previously advertised her form by defeating Coco Gauff in straight sets.

These two have met before. Badosa leads their personal head-to-head series 2-0 and has not dropped a set against the volatile Kazakh, who was pushed all the way by 299-ranked Canadian Katherine Sebov in her Toronto opener.

With Badosa short in the match betting, backing her to win 2-0 is the play.
