Brighton sign centre-back Matt Clarke from Portsmouth

Frankie Kent

Colchester to Peterborough, undisclosed fee

Mark Langdon

Peterborough are putting together a promotion-challenging squad with centre-back Frankie Kent the latest London Road arrival.

Kent, who reportedly turned down Championship interest, impressed for Colchester in League Two and looks an ideal player to improve alongside fellow summer arrival Mark Beevers.

Posh are clearly ambitious and they have to be on the title shortlist at 12-1 as well as promotion at 7-2.

Matt Clarke

Portsmouth to Brighton, undisclosed fee

Mark Langdon

It won't be easy to shift the Lewis Dunk-Shane Duffy centre-back partnership but Brighton have bagged themselves one of the best EFL defenders in Matt Clarke from Portsmouth.

Clarke, still only 22, oozes class on the ball and, while the reported £5m fee is decent for Portsmouth, Brighton should get the better of this deal in the long term.

Ellis Harrison

Ipswich to Portsmouth, undisclosed fee

Mark Langdon

Pompey have invested some of their Clarke chunk on centre-back Paul Downing from Blackburn but the more interesting arrival is that of striker Ellis Harrison from Ipswich.

Harrison had a nightmare with the Tractor Boys, scoring just once in 16 Championship appearances following a £750,000 move from Bristol Rovers, where he showed he was up to the task in League One.

Injuries did not help Harrison at Ipswich and neither did the fact he was often isolated in a blunt attack. Back in League One and at the right end of the table, Harrison should prosper.

Andy Cook

Walsall to Mansfield, undisclosed fee

Mark Langdon

A lack of mobility did not stop Andy Cook from scoring a healthy 13 times for relegated Walsall in League One so he should be among the goals regularly enough for Mansfield in League Two.

However, he is a totally different kind of player from last season's loan star Tyler Walker which suggests a possible change in style for the Stags.

Stewart Downing

Middlesbrough to Blackburn, free transfer

Mark Langdon

Stewart Downing brings bags of experience after featuring 35 times for England and representing Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Liverpool and West Ham, but Blackburn should not be expect too much from the left-footer, who turns 35 in July.

Blackburn saw off competition from Sunderland and Rangers to bag Downing but his arrival at Ewood Park is unlikely to make a major difference to Rovers' chances next season.

Reece Brown

Forest Green to Huddersfield, undisclosed

Mark Langdon

There is a decent step up to be made from Sky Bet League Two to the Championship but Reece Brown was clearly one of the brightest talents in the fourth tier and Huddersfield are right to take a chance on the Forest Green playmaker.

Brown, a nice ball carrier and dynamic in the number ten position, was influential as Forest Green made the playoffs in a 3-4-1-2 formation and he finished the campaign with 11 assists.

Gervane Kastaneer

NAC Breda to Coventry, undisclosed

Dan Childs

Coventry's failure to reach the Sky Bet League One playoffs last season was largely due to a lack of firepower and they have boosted their attacking options with the capture of powerful Curacao international forward Gervene Kastaneer from Dutch outfit NAC Breda.

Kastaneer was often used as a substitute for Breda, who finished bottom of the Dutch top flight in 2018-19.

However, he was rated highly as a youngster and featured for the Dutch Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 teams. If he realises some of that early potential he will be a good signing.

Patrick Bauer

Charlton to Preston, Free

Dan Childs

Central defender Patrick Bauer has been a key player for Charlton over the last four seasons and his free transfer to Preston is a blow to Addicks' boss Lee Bowyer.

Bauer will be forever fondly remembered by Charlton fans thanks to his winning goal against Sunderland in the Sky Bet League One playoff final.

However, it was his defensive qualities which alerted Preston, who shipped 67 league goals in the Sky Bet Championship in 2018-19 -the sixth-highest tally in the division.

James Hanson

Wimbledon to Grimsby, Free

Dan Childs

James Hanson's career has stalled since he left Bradford in January 2017 but he could be a shrewd signing for Grimsby, who have lacked a focal point to their attack.

Hanson's aerial ability made him a favourite of the fans at Bradford, where he achieved double-figure goal tallies in five of his eight seasons.

He was less successful at Sheffield United and Wimbledon, but has an excellent track record in fourth division football and should flourish in Cleethorpes.

Josh Morris

Scunthorpe to Fleetwood, Free

Dan Childs

Josh Morris is too good to be playing League Two football and he looks an astute signing for Fleetwood.

He doesn't possess lightning pace but he regularly provides match-winning moments with his magical left foot.

The 2018-19 campaign was tough for Morris, who suffered a broken leg in December 2018 and featured in just 19 league games.

But he was excellent in the previous two seasons, scoring 19 goals and assisting 11 in 2016-17 and scoring 11 and assisting seven in 2017-18.

Aaron Collins

Morecambe to Forest Green, Free

Dan Childs

Winger Aaron Collins failed to make a league appearance for Wolves in three years on the club's books and his career was at a crossroads when he was snapped up on a short-term deal by Morecambe in January this year.

He proved to be an inspired signing for the Shrimps, scoring eight goals in 15 appearances and playing a key role in keeping them out of relegation danger.

Collins' performances did not go unnoticed and he should be an asset for Forest Green, who are eyeing up a push for automatic promotion.

Daniel Adshead

Rochdale to Norwich, undisclosed

Dan Childs

Rochdale are not afraid to give young players a chance and their youth policy has benefited 17-year-old midfielder Daniel Adshead, who made ten appearances for them in League One last season.

Adshead did not get much exposure when Dale where fighting for survival towards the end of the season but he did enough to catch the eye of Norwich, who see him as one for the future.

Adshead has featured three times for England Under-18s and scored on his international debut against Holland.

Kortney Hause

Wolves to Aston Villa, £3m

Mark Langdon

Kortney Hause played his part in Aston Villa's late-season revival - they won six of the last seven matches he started - so it was a no-brainer for them to make the loan deal permanent this summer.

However, Hause should not be considered an integral part of the starting 11 and bringing fellow centre-back loanee Tyrone Mings back to Villa Park will be of far more importance to Dean Smith.

The Mings and Axel Tuanzebe defensive axis was key to Villa's promotion to the Premier League.

Macauley Bonne

Leyton Orient to Charlton, undisclosed fee

Mark Langdon

Charlton have been tracking Macauley Bonne for the best part of two years and the forward has certainly been prolific in the National League, scoring more than 20 goals in each of the last two seasons for Leyton Orient.

The step up from the fifth tier to the Sky Bet Championship is a big one for the former Woking, Lincoln and Colchester 23-year-old, so it's far from certain that Bonne will be a smash hit.

That is reflected in the reported price tag of just £200,000.
