Arsenal add width to attacking by signing Nicolas Pepe from Lille

Adam Webster

Bristol City to Brighton, £20 million

Likely a replacement for Lewis Dunk, who has been linked with a move to Leicester City as Harry Maguire's replacement, Adam Webster was central to Bristol City's pursuit of an eighth-placed finish in the Sky Bet Championship last term.

He can operate on the right but will primarily be deployed through the centre for the Seagulls, who may have been better-placed investing such a fee in a proven Premier League defender.

They escaped relegation last term by virtue of the ineptitude of other teams rather than their own performances and cannot afford to take any risks in the transfer window this summer. This has the makings of a misfire.

Nicolas Pepe

Lille to Arsenal, £72 million

The theory that attack is the best form of defence appears to have been behind Arsenal's transfer business this summer. With so many fans calling for the Gunners to invest in their rearguard, they have instead broken the bank to enhance their attack.

Nicolas Pepe adds some vital width to Arsenal's front line. Unlike Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, he can run at defenders but also has excellent end product, as demonstrated by his 22 goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1 last season.

The fee seems big for a talent untried outside of France but Pepe is one of the most highly-rated young forwards in Europe and, paid in instalments, it could prove to be a good value acquisition.

Oli McBurnie

Swansea to Sheffield United, £20 million

Sheffield United need all the help they can get if they are to survive their first season back in the top flight and Oli McBurnie could go a long way to helping them maintain their Premier League status.

He scored 22 goals in the Sky Bet Championship last season and has had a taster of England's elite division, making 16 appearances across the 2016-17 and 2017-18 campaigns before the Swans were relegated.

Fans should not read too much into the fact he is yet to score in the top flight, though, as he was then plying his trade in a Swansea side reluctant to attack and was in the infancy of his career.

Bartosz Bialkowski

Ipswich to Millwall, loan

Millwall have lost two goalkeepers this window after David Martin was snapped up by West Ham and Jordan Archer was released, so they have had to act quickly to bring in more shot-stoppers.

Latest addition Bartosz Bialkowski has plenty of Sky Bet Championship experience, having played for Ipswich since 2014, but he is likely to play second fiddle to Frank Fielding who joined on a free from Bristol City.

Jason McCarthy

Wycombe to Millwall, undisclosed

Jason McCarthy failed to cut it at Southampton, where he made only one appearance in three years, but he found regular game time at Wycombe.

Youngster Mahlon Romeo has nailed down the first-choice right-back slot at the Den and McCarthy will be made to fight for his place and prove he can make the step up to England's second tier. He is still only 23, though, and could prove a competent understudy if he improves his ability on the ball.

Lloyd Isgrove

Barnsley to Swindon, free

Barnsley have returned to the Championship but former player Lloyd Isgrove has gone in the opposite direction after the free agent agreed a deal with League Two side Swindon.

The winger could be a shrewd acquisition as he can operate on either flank and is reliable when it comes to tracking back. This will be the lowest level he has played at in his career and he should stand out in a Town team lacking quality forward players.

Idrissa Gueye

Everton to Paris Saint-Germain, £30 million

A lot has been made of Everton receiving more than three times what they paid for Idrissa Gueye but it is a big loss for the Toffees.

The Senegal international formed a solid midfield partnership with Andre Gomes last season and, even with the signing of Fabian Delph, his absence in the middle of the pitch could be noticeable. He is industrious and strong on the ball and can give PSG's wealth of attacking talent more licence to roam in Ligue 1.

Philip Billing

Huddersfield to Bournemouth, £15 million

The signing of Philip Billing epitomises Bournemouth's transfer strategy. He is young, shows plenty of potential and appears to be a good value addition.

But Cherries supporters may find it difficult to escape the fact he was at the heartbeat of one of the worst Premier League teams of all time and his technical ability and passing range will need some fine tuning if he is to thrive in Bournemouth's attacking set-up.
