Feliciano Lopez had a Sunday to remember at Queen’s Club, claiming the single’s crown as a wildcard before winning the double’s title alongside Andy Murray, and the Spanish veteran could continue his resurgence with victory over Pierre-Hugues Herbert at Eastbourne.

At 37, Lopez will know his days competing on the elite scene are coming to an end but he claimed some notable scalps in west London last week and a reproduction of that level of form would make him difficult to beat.

The Spaniard’s list of victims included big-serving Hungarian Marton Fucsovics, Canadian pair Milos Raonic and Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gilles Simon and a full day of recovery should ensure he is extremely competitive. Quotes of 6-4 underestimate his chances if he is fully ready for the battle.

Lopez, a three-time quarter-finalist at Wimbledon, is at his best on grass, the surface that suits his strong service game, and he can upset the odds against Frenchman Herbert, who has lost two of their previous three meetings in straight sets.

There are some competitive matches in the women’s event, with British number on Johanna Konta in second-round action against Maria Sakkari.

The Greek player had Konta's measure in the final of Rabat, winning in three sets, but that title triumph was on clay and roles should be reversed on the grass.
