Day three preview

British Grand Slam winners Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu return to the courts on day three of Wimbledon, and it could pay punters to support the two-time grass champion Scot against big-serving John Isner and back the women's US Open champion to stop in-form opponent Caroline Garcia.

Novak Djokovic faces a genuine test of his title credentials when he meets powerful Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis and the underdog has the potential to make life tough for the defending champion and top-seeded Serb.

Murray's fellow ATP Brit Cameron Norrie should have few problems getting past Spain's Jaume Munar, who is improving but is unlikely to be at his best on grass.

Andy Murray v John Isner

Andy Murray could face a serious test of his form and fitness against John Isner, who has always been a viable title outsider at the All England Club.

The giant American can count on winning plenty of service points against the two-time Wimbledon champion, but that alone may not be enough because Murray's game is in a pretty good place.

The bigger question mark for Murray supporters is over his physical wellbeing and how long his body – his hip has been replaced and reshaped, remember – can stand up to long, arduous matches.

But it's mostly positive in the court of king Murray right now and the best way of supporting the Scot may be to back him to win in three or four sets at a shade of odds-on.

It's unfortunate for Isner that he has to run into Murray so early in one of his favourite tournaments, but given the huge support the home favourite can rely on he can be trusted to shine again.

Caroline Garcia v Emma Raducanu

Caroline Garcia has hit a nice patch of form on grass and she arrived at Wimbledon following a title triumph in Bad Homburg last week.

For that reason, and the fact that the Frenchwoman is a fine player too, her second-round opponent Emma Raducanu is on offer at a backable price to end her foe's run.

Raducanu stormed to sporting legend when coming through qualifying to win the US Open in September – and she didn't drop a set in the singles at Flushing Meadows.

She opened her account at the All England Club in positive fashion on Monday when defeating Belgium's Alison Van Uytvanck, winner of two grass titles in recent weeks, 6-4 6-4.

And there should be plenty more to come from the British phenomenon, whose title odds have tumbled in the wake of that triumph.

Jiri Vesely v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina showed why he is one of the most dangerous unseeded players in the Wimbledon draw when edging out last year's semi-finalist Hubert Hurkacz in five sets in his opener.

The Spanish battler should be respected on any terrain, but he may meet his match in round two against Jiri Vesely. The Czech, although an underachiever, is a class act on the lush green courts and he could show that in the last 64.

Vesely's consistency is fancied to win the day against an opponent whose game-plan could come under close scrutiny.

Tommy Paul v Adrian Mannarino

Adrian Mannarino is definitely no mug when it comes to grass-court tennis, but the seasoned Frenchman may still have his work cut out against Tommy Paul.

American Paul opened up with a straight-sets triumph over once-useful grass-court player Fernando Verdasco and, in the light of that first-round display, it would be disappointing if the 25-year-old was to come unstuck against Mannarino.

The oddsmakers reckon Paul can nail a place in the last 32 and it's difficult to disagree with that assessment.

Marie Bouzkova v Ann Li

Ann Li is a seriously promising performer, but even she may have to give better against Marie Bouzkova in the wake of the Czech's upending of seed Danielle Collins in round one.

Bouzkova comes across as a player who could have a big future in Grand Slam competition and, after fighting back to deny Collins 5-7 6-4 6-4, it may be that her strengths are well suited to the demands of Wimbledon.

Li will scurry around and battle for all she's worth, but the outsider may not have the physical strength to stop Bouzkova over the best of three sets.
