Aliaksandra Sasnovich sometimes makes hard work of things on court, but her current ranking of world number 99 doesn’t reflect her ability and she should have enough to take care of qualifier Greet Minnen.

Sasnovich made the final in Limoges at the end of the 2019 campaign and while that meant that the Belarusian did not have a long off-season, it does mean that she has been in pretty decent form in recent weeks.

Minnen dropped only one set in coming through the Melbourne Park qualifiers, but Sasnovich is different class to the Belgian’s victims Kaylah McPhee, Fang Ying Xun and Barbara Haas.

Defending champion Naomi Osaka faces a potentially tough opener against Marie Bouzkova, but the Japanese is likely to have done her homework under new coach Wim Fissette so a cosy victory cannot be ruled out.
