Day ten preview

Felix Auger-Aliassime v Daniil Medvedev

The pressure seemed to be starting to get to men's Australian Open favourite Daniil Medvedev in his win over Maxime Cressy in the previous round.

The second seed reached boiling point against serve-and-volley specialist Cressy, calling his opponent's playing style "boring" and insisting it was the unluckiest day of his life.

He nonetheless went on to beat the American 6-2 7-6 6-7 7-5 but it was the second time in three matches Medvedev has dropped a set and he could do so again against Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The talented Canadian has accounted for Marin Cilic and Dan Evans in Melbourne and will be fully focused as he chases a first Grand Slam title. With that in mind, he is worth backing to win a set at a shade of odds-on.

Jannik Sinner v Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas knocked out Taylor Fritz in the fourth round but it was by no means a straightforward success and it is worth remembering that the Greek underwent elbow surgery at the end of 2021.

That is bound to have had an impact on his performances and it is no surprise that the fourth seed has dropped four sets in his last three matches at Melbourne Park.

With that in mind, young Italian Jannik Sinner looks a decent bet to edge out Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals on day ten.

Coming into the tournament, Sinner won all three of his matches for Italy at the ATP Cup and he has dropped only one set in Melbourne.

Danielle Collins v Alize Cornet

There will be at least one surprise name in the last four of the women's draw at the Australian Open with 27th seed Danielle Collins locking horns with French talent Alize Cornet, who has never previously reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam.

Collins overcame Elise Mertens of Belgium in the previous round while Cornet has seen off former world number ones Simona Halep and Garbine Muguruza. It promises to be tight and looks devilishly difficult to decipher.

Iga Swiatek v Kaia Kanepi

Kaia Kanepi claimed the big scalp of second seed Aryna Sabalenka in the last round but her Melbourne journey could come to an end against consistent Pole Iga Swiatek.

The Estonian has defied the odds to reach this stage but she could struggle to keep up with former French Open champion Swiatek, who is 16 years her junior.

She was unimpressive in the Melbourne Summer Set before the Grand Slam, losing to Ana Konjuh in the round of 16, and Swiatek has won seven of her eight matches in 2022.

Back the youngster to come through in straight sets.
