Alex de Minaur could bounce back against maverick Paire

Paire is playing well but is too inconsistent to place much faith in

Alex de Minaur came out second best in his clash with fellow top youngster Stefanos Tsitsipas last week, but the Australian could return to winning ways against Benoit Paire in the Shanghai Masters.

It has been a long, successful season for De Minaur, who has risen more spots in the ATP rankings than any top youngster.

But while Paire has also shown glimpses that the penny may be dropping as regards whatever plans he may have of going up in the world, it would take an act of faith to believe that the maverick Frenchman could become the next Richard Gasquet or Gael Monfils.

De Minaur is a long way from being the physically strongest performer in top-level tennis, but what he lacks in power he makes up for in aptitude.

He lost nothing in defeat to Tsitsipas in Tokyo, and while De Minaur may be feeling the effects of a long campaign, he's good enough to respond positively against Paire.

In Thursday morning's early action, Saisai Zheng can be considered against Dayana Yastremska in Hong Kong, as can Timea Bacsinszky against Misaki Doi in Tianjin.

Recommendation
A de Minaur
1pt 8-11 Hills
