Match previews

Luca Brecel was in decent nick until running into in-form Lyu Haotian in the Northern Ireland Open last month, but the fact that the Belgian tends not to peak for long could aid Judd Trump's chances in their Champion of Champions first-round clash on Wednesday.

Trump has made a fairly slow start to the season after reaching the Crucible final in May. The former world number one is playing okay, though, and it's unlikely to be long before he's back contending for silverware, but Brecel is a seriously talented performer who has underachieved for much of his professional career.

It could be worth backing the encounter, which could be close if Brecel shows self-belief at the table, to last for over 5.5 frames.

In the afternoon's other last-16 rumble, Mark Allen has been supported to go well in Bolton after retaining the Northern Ireland Open title recently.

If in the mood to impress, the Pistol should have too much for seasoned opponent Joe Perry, who produces his A-game less often these days.
