Two of the NFL's most prestigious teams go head to head as the San Francisco 49ers travel to Texas to take on the Dallas Cowboys, and it's possible to make a case for San Francisco being the best team in the NFL over the second half of the season.

Since week nine they have led the league in net yards per play and have a superb passing offence, with 13 per cent of dropbacks resulting in an explosive play.

Meanwhile the Cowboys' offence is trending in the wrong direction. Over the first nine weeks of the season they were fifth in expected points added per play, but that has dipped to ninth since week ten.

More specifically, the rushing offence has really taken a dip, dropping from seventh to 26th in rush success rate. That could spell disaster as running backs Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard must now contend with a 49ers defence that ranks first in EPA/play against the run since week nine.

The 49ers defence should control the tempo of this game, allowing for an offence boasting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and a dangerous cast of weapons to take advantage of a Cowboys defence that is 28th in the NFL in opponent yards per play since week nine.

A road win could set up the Niners for a deep run into the playoffs.
