The Atlanta Falcons are having a better start to the season than most people expected and even though they have a 2-3 record they’re the only team in the NFL to have rewarded their handicap backers every week this season. Their biggest loss this season was by six points to the Buccaneers last week and they are getting almost that many points at home to the 49ers.

This is a tough situation for the 49ers, who are coming off a big win over the hapless Panthers but now have to play a second successive game on the other side of America with another early kick-off.

They have also been hit by a number of defensive injuries, including a groin issue for star pass-rusher Nick Bosa, while starting cornerback Emmanuel Moseley suffered a season-ending injury in the win at Carolina.

The other side of the equation is that the Falcons are playing much better than expected and have been in with a chance of winning every game they have played. They blew a big lead against the Saints and were more competitive than expected against the Rams and Bucs.

Head coach Arthur Smith is not afraid to rely on his running game, which takes the pressure off quarterback Marcus Mariota, and they managed to conjure up a home win over the Browns despite completing just seven passes in the game.

Another ground assault could pay off, but Mariota could have his star tight end Kyle Pitts back from injury for this game too.
