Match preview

The Philadelphia Eagles can clinch the NFC East title and a bye through the first round of the playoffs with a win in Dallas but they are without quarterback Jalen Hurts and the Cowboys are capable of making their rivals wait.

Hurts has been ruled out with a shoulder injury so former Jacksonville QB Gardner Minshew will start in his absence.

Minshew is one of the best back-ups in the NFL but that hasn't prevented the handicap from moving heavily in favour of Dallas.

While the quarterback situation for Philly matters, this game will be won in the trenches, as most are, especially between division rivals. These teams feature two of the best offensive lines in the NFL, and both defences rank in the top ten in DVOA.

However, the Eagles have struggled a bit against the run this season, at least more so than Dallas. The Cowboys defence ranks tenth against the rush in DVOA, while the Eagles are 20th in that category.

Just that edge alone is enough to side with Dallas considering how strong their ground game has been, with both Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliot running hard. Dallas's biggest concern on offence is quarterback Dak Prescott’s efficiency, which has taken a dip. He has been picked off seven times in the last four games.

Prescott will need to be careful against a ball-hawking Philly secondary, but if the Cowboys can clean things up on offence and do a good job applying pressure to Minshew, they could run out comfortable winners.
