Match preview
A huge handicap start for the New York Giants is just too good to pass up when they visit Tampa Bay on Monday evening.
The Giants aren’t as bad this season as public perception or their 3-6 record suggest, while the Bucs have had some major issues exposed in recent weeks.
The Giants – and quarterback Daniel Jones – have been much better on the road in the past couple of seasons. They were in another tough game two weeks ago against the Chiefs, when they comfortably covered a big handicap in a 20-17 defeat.
Tampa Bay lost by double digits to Washington last week and they’re still without wide receiver Antonio Brown, which has hampered their offensive plans. Their secondary has been completely decimated by injuries and now they’re also set to be without defensive tackle Vita Vea, which is a huge blow.
It’s especially bad timing for the Buccaneers as the Giants are finally likely to have star running back Saquon Barkley back for this game, and with Vea out he might have the freedom to run the ball.
When these teams played last year the Giants dealt well with the threat of Tom Brady and mostly held him in check. Their defence has been solid – in their past three games they’ve given up only three points to the Panthers, 20 to the Chiefs, and 16 to the Raiders.
If they can make things tough for the Bucs as well, they should stay within this big handicap.
