For once the NFL has saved the best for last on its Week 17 schedule with a great showdown between two teams vying to be the top seed in the AFC playoffs.

The Bengals are the defending AFC champions after making their way to the Super Bowl last season as the fourth seeds in the conference, but they are on course for a better starting position this year, provided they can hold off Baltimore to win the AFC North.

The Bills look set to claim top seeding in the conference with two games to go – and with it the sole bye to the divisional round – provided they don't blow it by losing this game or next week's final tussle against the Patriots.

The Bengals had something of a Super Bowl hangover, losing their first two games this year, but they have hit form at the right time, winning their last seven outings. Even so, it has arguably now reached the point where they are being overrated against a top-quality team such as the Bills, who are on a six-game winning run themselves.

It has not been a smooth ride for the Bengals lately either. They may well have blown a 22-0 half-time lead against the Patriots last week but were spared when New England fumbled at the five-yard line, and they trailed 17-3 at half-time against the Buccaneers the week before.

Despite the underlying issues, those Bengals wins have led to the Bills not being favoured by as many points for this game as we might have expected a few weeks ago and the value is worth taking.

It’s a great showdown between quarterbacks Joe Burrow of the Bengals and Josh Allen of the Bills, and the Bengals have not faced many elite passing attacks this season. Allen and the Bills defence could be key to Buffalo securing a crucial win.
