Names in the frame to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager

Not since Bruce Rioch was sacked in August 1996 have Arsenal needed to hunt a new manager but after Arsene Wenger confirmed his departure at the end of this season the race is on to fill the Emirates post.

Earning his way in the managerial game at MLS franchise New York City, who are part of the Manchester City group where he is apparently held in high regard. Would be a sentimental vote but others appear to hold superior credentials.

Joachim Low 8-1
His Germany side have played excellent football and Low would command immediate respect in the dressing room, but he has been out of club football since 2004 and has a contract until after Euro 2020 with the national team.

Carlo Ancelotti 10-1
Wenger has been criticised for going easy on the players, not bothering with too many tactical discussions and being off the pace with modern training methods.

If Arsenal want a like-for-like replacement then Ancelotti is their man but surely the Gunners want something different even though the 58-year-old possesses a glittering CV which includes three Champions League triumphs - two with Milan and one with Real Madrid.

There was a player revolt against Ancelotti's training methods at Bayern and Arsenal arguably need a fresher, younger spark.

Luis Enrique 10-1
Won the lot with Barcelona and reportedly has an excellent relationship with Raul Sanllehi, who worked with Enrique at Camp Nou, and is now head of football relations at Arsenal.

Worthy of respect but there is a suspicion that Barca success had more to do with Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar not to mention an excellent supporting cast.

Max Allegri 16-1
Allegri, who has reached two of the past three Champions League finals with Juventus, has a contract in Turin until 2020 but should definitely be a consideration for Arsenal.

A tactically flexible coach with a winning pedigree - Allegri also answered questions in excellent English after defeating Spurs in this season's Champions League to back-up claims he has been learning the language in preparation for a Premier League post.

Leonardo Jardim 16-1
Deserving of a job promotion having achieved the maximum at Monaco, beating PSG to the title last season and also guiding the club to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

His Monaco side defied expected goal expectations to reach the French summit and not as instinctively attacking as the numbers in that marvellous campaign would suggest.
