Jordan Pickford should be England's goalkeeper at Euro 2020

Former Three Lions stopper Paul Robinson backs Everton man for key position

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has backed Jordan Pickford to be the Three Lions number one at Euro 2020.

Robinson, who represented England 41 times and was the keeper at the 2006 World Cup under Sven-Goran Eriksen, insists Gareth Southgate should not drop Pickford in favour of Nick Pope or Dean Henderson.

Robinson was speaking to the Racing Post's Different League YouTube show in association with Betfred and told presenter Scott Minto: "Jordan is England's number one and since Gareth Southgate gave him a vote of confidence I think his club form has improved. You don't take the jersey off someone who hasn't done anything wrong."

There does not appear to be much between the options, but Robinson reckons Pope is ahead of Henderson should Southgate decide to make a change between the sticks this summer.

"Pope is the better goalkeeper," said ex-Tottenham man Robinson. "You will see potentially see offers come in for him to leave Burnley with Spurs being linked should Hugo Lloris move on.

"I trained with Nick and he has proved he is good enough. A lot has been said about his kicking being the problem but I thought he was fine in that department for England when he played in the recent World Cup qualifiers."

Robinson also discussed Henderson's battle with David de Gea to be Manchester United's number one and the problems at Tottenham, while he also tipped an upset on Monday night, when his former club Leeds host Liverpool.
