Lewis Grabban
Bournemouth to Sunderland, loan

Sunderland were never going to find a like-for-like replacement for Jermain Defoe, but they are putting together a more varied attack and will be delighted to have secured Lewis Grabban on a season-long-loan.

Grabban is the second striker to arrive at the Stadium of Light this summer, following James Vaughan, who joined from Bury earlier this month.

He isn't a prolific marksman but he has made an impact in the Sky Bet Championship, scoring 37 goals in 95 games over the last four seasons.

Over the same period he has struggled in Premier League matches - scoring once in 24 appearances.

However, Grabban's confidence should return at a level he excels at and he can play a part in lifting the gloom on Wearside.

Verdict
Adds to Sunderland's goal threat.

Ondrej Mazuch
Sparta Prague to Hull, undisclosed

Hull needed defensive reinforcements and have swooped for former Czech Republic international centre-back Ondrej Mazuch.

It has been an unsettling summer for the Tigers, who have sold several first-choice players, including four defenders - right-back Ahmed Elmohamady, left-back Andy Robertson and centre-backs Curtis Davies and Harry Maguire.

They are hoping Mazuch - capped four times by the Czechs - can plug one of the gaps, but it looks a risky signing.

Mazuch was once a key player for Anderlecht and Dnipro but his career seems to have been in decline in recent years.

Over the last two seasons he has played just 18 matches for Sparta Prague in the Czech top flight and he will need to get back to his best if he is to shine in his first season in England.

Verdict
Risky signing.

Aaron Pierre
Wycombe to Northampton, free

Northampton have become a much more ambitious club since some Chinese investors came on board in the summer and they are going about their business in a sensible way.

Attracting the right type of players to play in Sky Bet League One is a challenge - irrespective of the budget - and the Cobblers have made an astute move by capturing central defender Aaron Pierre on a free transfer from Wycombe.

Pierre turned down a new contract at Wycombe, where he was described by manager Gareth Ainsworth as one of the best centre-backs in League Two.

He had a trial period with Championship club Bristol City this summer and failed to earn a contract but is more than capable of doing a job in the third tier.

Pierre is quick and strong in the air and loves to defend.

The Grenada international was an instrumental player at Wycombe and was sorely missed when absent. Last season he missed seven league games and Wycombe one won, drew one and lost five - taking an average of 0.57 points per game.

In the 39 games he played, Wycombe won 18, drew 11 and lost ten at an average of 1.67 points per game.

Verdict
Excellent signing.

Andrew Robertson
Hull to Liverpool, £8m rising to £10m

In a summer of inflated transfer deals Liverpool have picked up a bargain by signing Andy Robertson from Hull.

The Scot is a modern-day left-back with a great engine and loves to get forward in support of attacks.

When he gets into good positions he has the ability to deliver a killer cross.

Defensively, he can sometimes be caught out of position and it is that side of his game that he will need to work on to dislodge first-team regular James Milner.

However, being a natural left-footer, Robertson is more suited to the position than Milner and he will be an excellent option when Jurgen Klopp wants to play with more width and stretch defensive-minded opponents.

Verdict
Value acquisition.
