Chelsea reject Matic looks way overpriced
Our verdicts on the latest signings
Nemanja Matic
Chelsea to Manchester United, £40m
The transfer market has gone bonkers this summer and Manchester United have overpaid for Nemanja Matic, who turned 29 this month.
Matic is an experienced holding midfielder with two Premier League winners medals but he was considered surplus to requirements at Chelsea, who wanted to free up space for their new signing Tiemoue Bakayoko.
United had been strongly linked with a move for Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier and appear to have moved on to Matic after meeting stiff resistance from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
However, he is not the type of signing who will be getting United fans excited about the new season and his value is likely to markedly decrease over the length of his three-year-contract.
Verdict
Overpriced.
Leo Bonatini
Al Hilal to Wolves, loan
Wolves have been pulling out all the stops to strengthen their squad and will be delighted with the loan capture of Brazilian striker Leo Bonatini.
The 23-year-old netted 12 goals in Saudi Arabian football last term but gave a better indication of his talents at Estoril the season before, scoring 17 goals in the Portuguese top flight.
Bonatini will need time to adapt to English football but is a strong, athletic player who should be well suited to the Sky Bet Championship.
Verdict
Should be among the goals.
Ashley Fletcher
West Ham to Middlesbrough, £6.5m
Ashley Fletcher was a bit-part player at West Ham last season but did enough to persuade Middlesbrough to make him a key part of their plans to get straight back to the Premier League.
At the age of 21 there is still time for Fletcher to flourish but he faces fierce competition at the Riverside where he will be competing with Britt Assombalonga, Martin Braithwaite, Patrick Bamford and Rudy Gestede for one of the attacking berths.
Fletcher scored two goals in three appearances for the England Under-20s and has been bought for his potential.
But his goalless 16-game spell with the Hammers was disappointing.
Verdict
A high price to pay for potential.
Aboubakar Kamara
Amiens to Fulham, Undisclosed
Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic has been frustrated by a lack of progress in the transfer market and may not be fully satisfied by the capture of Aboubakar Kamara.
Jokanovic has been targeting an experienced centre-forward to replace Chris Martin, who returned to Derby after a season-long loan, but Kamara looks more of a speculative purchase.
He scored ten goals in 29 league games in the French second tier last season and is an improving player who has plenty of pace.
The transition to English football could be difficult although Kamara can look to emulate Jonathan Kodjia, who moved from Angers to Bristol City three summers ago and was an instant hit.
Verdict
Will need time to settle.
Lee Evans
Wolves to Wigan, loan
Wolves have been busy recruiting expensive foreign players in an effort to bolster their promotion chances but they are having to take a tough line with some of their younger players, including midfielder Lee Evans who has moved to Wigan on a season-long loan.
Evans is a busy player, who is quick into the tackle but has had limited chances at Wolves and made just 15 appearances in the Championship last season.
He needed a move to kick-start his career and should flourish for a Wigan side who seem intent on competing at the top end of Sky Bet League One.
Verdict
The drop in class should suit.
