Match preview

Tampines Rovers are off to a strong start in the Singapore Premier League and can make it three wins from four by justifying odds-on favouritism at home to Lion City Sailors.

Week four of the competition is the first with all matches taking place behind closed doors but a lack of home support may not hinder Rovers, who have lost just one of their last 18 home league fixtures.

Gavin Lee's side snapped up a new striker – Montenegrin Boris Kopitovic – before the start of the season and their investment is starting to pay off.

On his debut Kopitovic netted in a 5-3 loss at home to Indonesian side Bali United in an Asian Champions League qualifying clash.

He was also on target in a 1-0 success at home to Balestier Khalsa in their opening match of the domestic season.

Rovers are hoping to go one better than last season, when they finished second, but must cope without midfielder Yasir Hanapi and striker Taufik Suparno, who are both suspended, and injured defender Madhu Mohana.

Lion City have played once – drawing 1-1 at Tanjong Pagar United – and are harder to assess.

They made 11 new signings since last season's sixth-place finish, including Australian striker Andy Pengelly, who joined from Queensland Premier League outfit Peninsula Power.

Pengelly made a bright start, netting in the draw at Tanjong Pagar, and offers an alternative attacking option to 36-year-old veteran Shahril Ishak - their top scorer last season with seven league goals.

However, Lion City are not going to face much more difficult tests than an away match at Rovers and may struggle to avoid defeat.
