Match preview

Liverpool are firmly in a two-horse title race with Manchester City and head to the Emirates with a spring in their step following City's unexpected draw at Crystal Palace on Monday.

Jurgen Klopp knows every victory counts if his side are to emerge up the hill and finish as champions. Klopp's men have the incentive of narrowing the gap to just a point at the top, having played the same number of games, so the visitors should be on the front foot against the in-form Gunners.

Saturday's routine 2-0 win at Brighton means the Reds have won eight Premier League games on the bounce, and while there's no doubt Arsenal will make it difficult, the visitors represent solid value at a shade of odds-on for victory, extending their great recent record against the north Londoners in the process.

Liverpool have won four of the last six meetings between the two sides in all competitions - including two consecutive victories to nil at the Emirates - and should display their renowned consistency on the road again when it matters most. That's what they did during a Diogo Jota-inspired 2-0 win in the League Cup semi-finals at the Emirates when these two last met in January.

Klopp's side have lost only twice in the league all season and have failed to score just once in their 28 games so far.

Even with Mohamed Salah a doubt with a knock, the Reds have more than enough firepower to trouble the home defence with Jota, Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane and the fit-again Roberto Firmino all available.

This remains a tough fixture, however. Arsenal are bang in form and are certain to test the title challengers in what should be a closely-fought affair.

Arsenal resemble an impressive work-in-progress and Mikel Arteta has overseen a vast improvement in recent months, with his side winning their last five straight to firmly emerge as favourites for fourth place.

There is genuine danger posed to Liverpool from the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Alexandre Lacazette, who have all been amongst the goals of late, and it's worth remembering Arteta's side were very good for large parts in their home game with Man City at the turn of the year, deservedly taking the lead before going down 2-1 to a late winner.

In recent weeks, the Gunners have seen off Wolves twice, Brentford and, in a comfortable 2-0 win at the weekend, Leicester. But trying to halt a hungry Liverpool, who are 15 points better off in the table, is obviously a much sterner test.
