The World Cup 2022 European qualifiers resume on Thursday, with home nations England, Scotland and Northern Ireland all getting their qualifying campaigns up and running.

Germany and Spain, who have both claimed World Cup glory since 2010, are also in action as they host Iceland and Greece respectively.

Today's best football bets

Bets to be placed by 5pm

Switzerland to beat Bulgaria

Denmark to beat Israel

Poland to beat Hungary

Armenia to beat Liechtenstein

Bulgaria have won only two of their last 22 internationals and look out of their depth against a far superior Switzerland outfit while Denmark, who overcame England at Wembley in October, should justify favouritism at inexperienced Israel.

Poland, spearheaded by the prolific Robert Lewandowski, can defeat a Hungary side minus star man Dominik Szoboszlai while Armenia should have few concerns at minnows Liechtenstein, who failed to beat San Marino in their last home international.

England to win 6-0 or 7-0

Scotland v Austria

Sky Sports Main Event, 7.45pm

Scotland, who have conceded only three times across their last six internationals, are on the upgrade and they look good value to topple an Austria side who suffered away defeats to Israel and Latvia in their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

Italy v Northern Ireland

Sky Sports Football, 7.45pm

Well-organised Northern Ireland will be relying on their defensive attributes in Parma and that may lead to a low-scoring affair with an in-form Italy, who are on 22-match unbeaten run with clean sheets in nine of their last 12.

Bet of the day

Denmark to beat Israel Sky Sports Football, 5pm

Eleven of Israel's 25-man squad have picked up fewer than five caps and the learning process could begin with a home defeat against Denmark, who have won five of their last six games which includes a 1-0 victory over England at Wembley in October.

Goalscorer bet of the day

Hungary v Poland Sky Sports red button, 7.45pm

Robert Lewandowski has racked up 44 goals in 40 appearances for club and country this season and full of confidence after scoring in eight consecutive games for Bayern, the prolific Pole can make his mark against Hungary. He is Evens with bet365 and Betfair to get his name on the scoresheet once more.
