Over 2.5 goals

Six of Hungary's last seven competitive matches have produced over 2.5 goals and the exception was Wednesday's 2-0 defeat to Germany, who had seven shots on target to the Magyars' four.

Scotland were thumped 5-1 by Die Mannschaft in the tournament opener before an entertaining 1-1 draw with Switzerland and both the Scots and Hungary need a victory to have any chance of qualifying for the last 16.

However, the Scottish defence is weakened by Kieran Tierney's absence due to injury and the suspension of Ryan Porteous and Steve Clarke's men have conceded 27 goals in 11 games since the end of Euro 2024 qualifying.

Scott McTominay to score at any time

Scott McTominay opened his goalscoring account at the Euros on Wednesday, helped by a massive deflection from Swiss defender Fabian Schar.

Manchester United's McTominay had four of his side's 12 shots, including a fierce second-half volley that was well blocked, and he looks a good bet to find the net against Hungary.

He scored both goals in Scotland's famous qualifying win over Spain and finished the campaign with a tally of seven in eight games, pipping Norway superstar Erling Haaland to top-scorer honours in Group A.

Germany midfielders Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan tucked away chances from inside the box against Hungary and McTominay, an aerial threat at set-pieces, gets into similarly dangerous positions from open play. 

Barnabas Varga to have over 1.5 shots

Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn made fine saves to deny Swiss strikers Ruben Vargas and Dan Ndoye on Wednesday while substitute Breel Embolo had a goal disallowed for offside.

On matchday three, the Scots will be wary of the threat of Hungary striker Barnabas Varga, who scored against Switzerland and missed a couple of decent chances in the defeat to Germany.

Varga is a prolific scorer in Hungarian domestic football, claiming 46 goals in 48 top-flight starts over the past two seasons, and he gets excellent service from Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai at international level.

He had two shots in each of his first two Group A appearances and should rack up at least another couple of attempts in a must-win game for both Hungary and Scotland.
