Match preview

Rangers are down and out in the Champions League and things do not get any easier for Giovanni van Brockhorst's Light Blues when they visit a Napoli side in frightening form on Wednesday.

The Gers were battered 7-1 by Liverpool at Ibrox on matchday four, leaving them rooted to the foot of the group standings and with little hope of even securing a Europa League berth with a third-placed finish.

Napoli, meanwhile, have been sensational.

Luciano Spalletti's side took control of the Serie A title race on Sunday with a disciplined 1-0 win over Jose Mourinho's Roma to open up a three-point gap at the summit. But they have also been firing on all cylinders in the Champions League, having already booked their spot in the last 16 with four straight wins.

And it's the manner of those European victories that have been especially eyecatching. The Neapolitans opened up with a 4-1 thrashing of Liverpool, then sauntered past Rangers 3-0 at Ibrox before 6-1 and 4-2 victories over Ajax.

Their attacking depth was emphasised on Sunday when in-form striker Giacomo Raspadori dropped out of the starting line-up for forward Victor Osimhen, who marked his return with the winning goal against Roma.

Spalletti has the luxury of selecting from numerous devastating attacking combinations and there is still plenty of incentive for his team on Wednesday.

Should Napoli win and Liverpool fail to beat Ajax they will be confirmed as group winners with a game to spare, so expect them to leave nothing to chance and operate on the front foot.

With that in mind, and given they are averaging 4.25 goals per game in the Champions League this term, Napoli look a great bet to beat Rangers by at least a two-goal cushion.
