Match preview

Tottenham's comfortable win against Wolfsberger in the first leg of this Europa League tie in Hungary ought to make them hard to oppose in London – but given their form odds of 2-7 make them even harder to back.

Spurs beat Ferdinand Feldhofer's men 4-1 in Budapest, although the scoreline doesn't quite tell the whole story.

Jose Mourinho's men were excellent in the first period last week but pretty ordinary in the second, begging the question that if the Portuguese manager goes into battle without Harry Kane or Son Heung-min, do Tottenham become a lay?

The answer is that they quite probably are, which is almost certainly why at least one of them will start, and Mourinho has said the team he sends out will look remarkably like the one which started in Hungary.

With just two wins in their last eight, however, and some big games coming up in the Premier League where they have slipped to ninth place, there are better bets to be had than backing Tottenham here.

Mourinho won't want to take any risks that's for sure, and while he'll be acutely aware that the Austrians won at Feyenoord and CSKA Moscow in the group stage, they're pretty much out of this in terms of reaching the last 16.

But they looked more than good enough in the second half in Budapest to suggest they can at least put up a fight and Tottenham, coming off a poor result at West Ham, could well be given a test.

Key stat

Spurs have won only two of their last eight matches.
