In-form Daryl Gurney looks the value pick of PDC performers down under at 16-1

Bookmakers were beaming in Brisbane last week when local hopeful Damon Heta upstaged the PDC’s finest but normal service has to be resumed in Melbourne this weekend.

Heta saw off James Wade, Gary Anderson, Simon Whitlock and Rob Cross to scoop the biggest prize of his career and he’ll have a new spring in his step heading to Melbourne for the fourth World Series event.

The eight PDC big guns were caught cold but having had a week in Australia now there are no excuses and one of the European aces should deliver.

No one threw better than beaten finalist Cross last week, which explains why he’s as short as 4-1 second favourite behind an easy-to-back Michael van Gerwen, whose lacklustre form continued with a second-round defeat at the hands of Daryl Gurney.

And it’s Gurney who gets the nod this time around at tempting odds of 16-1.

Gurney fully deserved his win against Van Gerwen last Saturday and was denied a place in the final only by Cross, who barely missed a double.

The Northern Irishman had touched down in Oz in top nick anyway having just reached the semis at the World Matchplay, where he was touched off by nemesis Cross once more.

Gurney is a decent price because he’s drawn Kyle Anderson in round one though Superchin does boast a 3-1 head-to-head record against The Original.

Recommendation
D Gurney
