Preview

The Birmingham Phoenix and Southern Brave contested the first-ever men’s The Hundred final last year, with the Brave coming out on top.

The duo looked set to tussle for top spot in the competition again in 2022 but Birmingham have seen their pace attack decimated by injuries, with Adam Milne, Chris Woakes, Olly Stone and Matt Fisher all missing out.

The absence of those players was keenly felt in the Phoenix's opener with their seam options taking just two wickets as they lost by six wickets to the Trent Rockets.

While the big hitting of Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone, who both finished in the top four for runs scored last season, remains, Birmingham’s ability to contain their opponents has been significantly reduced.

That may be an issue against this Southern Brave side who cruised to a nine wicket victory over Welsh Fire in their curtain raiser, a James Vince knock of 71 leading them to chase down 107 with 33 balls to spare.

The Brave look like the more balanced side at this moment in time and they are a confident selection to follow up their two victories over Birmingham in last year’s competition.
