South Africa vs England prediction

England's disappointing Champions Trophy campaign comes to an end against South Africa in Karachi and the Group B fixture will be Jos Buttler's final match as white-ball captain.

Buttler confirmed his resignation from the role on Friday after defeats to Australia and Afghanistan sealed an early exit from the tournament.

England have endured a grim couple of years in limited-overs cricket. They lost six of their first seven matches as defending champions at the 2023 World Cup and have suffered nine defeats in ten white-ball games since Brendon McCullum took over as coach at the start of 2025.

One of their World Cup losses was a 229-run drubbing by South Africa, who are on course for the Champions Trophy semi-finals.

The Proteas' clash with world champions Australia was washed out but they were excellent in their opening 107-run win over the Afghans in Karachi.

Rassie van der Dussen made a brisk 52 in that victory and he looks well placed at number four to top-score against an England side who took early wickets against Australia and Afghanistan before losing their way.

Van der Dussen had a prolific SA20 campaign for champions MI Cape Town in January and February before top-scoring with an unbeaten 62 in South Africa's warm-up game at Karachi's National Stadium.

England are evens to claim a consolation victory and Buttler is 13-1 with Betfair and Paddy Power to be named player of the match.
