Afghanistan vs Australia prediction
Afghanistan beat England by eight runs in Wednesday's Champions Trophy thriller in Lahore, setting up a virtual quarter-final against Group B rivals Australia at the same venue.
World champions Australia chased down 352 to beat England at the Gaddafi Stadium before a washout against South Africa and they will not be taking Friday's opponents lightly.
The Aussies needed one of the greatest innings in history to beat the Afghans at the 2023 World Cup in Mumbai, where Glenn Maxwell's unbeaten 201 dragged them from 91-7 to a victory target of 292.
Afghanistan's run to the semi-finals of last year's T20 World Cup included a 21-run win over Australia, who are missing senior pacemen Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood at this tournament.
England opener Ben Duckett scored 165 in a losing cause against Australia in Lahore and the Afghan top two also pose a threat to the favourites.
Ibrahim Zadran scored 129 not out in the World Cup defeat to the Aussies in November 2023 and his wonderful 177 set up this week's win over England.
Opening partner Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been dismissed for ten and six in his first two matches but he looks a cracking price to hit a six.
Rahmanullah cleared the ropes four times in his innings of 60 in the T20 World Cup triumph against Australia and hit 22 sixes in 11 ODIs against Sri Lanka, Ireland, South Africa and Bangladesh last year.
